Introduction to Translation

Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the art of translating texts French- English- Arabic. The aim of this course is to provide you with some basic translation skills and to develop your understanding of grammar and syntax. Special attention will be paid to the particular problems created by differences in grammar, sentence structure and other common errors such as “false friends” and influences from your mother tongue. Attention will also be paid to the differences in verb tenses in these 3 languages as well as the stylistic differences of various genres (newspaper articles, novels, business letters) and how to translate these different types of texts. The course will focus mainly on acquiring practical translation skills rather than the theoretical background.
