This course is a survey of general linguistics, emphasizing the theory and methodology of the traditional central areas of the field—phonetics, phonology, and morphology concentrating on phonological theories and analytical techniques. The course introduces students to the definition and boundary of linguistics; the relationship between linguistics and other sciences; the fundamental concepts of descriptive linguistics; the comparative and historical linguistics.
