Internet and Web System Design

Aims of Course:

• This course provides students with a hands-on exploration of the world of dynamic media production through the creation of interactive software programs that combine media elements like graphics, audio, video, and interactivity; and focuses on designing and planning projects with the needs and expectations of end users in mind. Through an exploration of HTML5, CSS3, and Jquery/JavaScript.
• HTML5 is a markup language used for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web.
• CSS is used to control the style and layout of Web pages.CSS3 is the latest standard for CSS.
• JavaScript is a high level, dynamic, untyped, and interpreted programming language.
• jQuery is a concise and fast JavaScript library that can be used to simplify event handling, HTML document traversing, Ajax interactions and animation for speedy website development. jQuery simplifies the HTML's client-side scripting, thus simplifying Web 2.0 applications development.

Learning Experiences:

The course is offered in 40 hours of lectures with individual exercises, project work and problem solving.

Course Learning Outcomes:

By the completion of the course the students should be able to:

• To develop an in-depth understanding of the processes and planning involved in the creation of engaging multimedia tools for use as online content and stand-alone applications.
• Understand the HTML5 standard and use this successfully in building a website, including new standards like video, audio, canvas, and geo-location.
• Understand the CSS3 standard, using some of the principles in successfully building a website.
• Introduce JavaScript and jQuery, demonstrating how this tool manipulates the document object model (DOM) to provide interactivity on a web page.
