Aims of Course:
The main aim of the course is to introduce the basics of digital computers along with all digital components and devices. The course covers the principles and basic tools required to design typical digital systems such as microcomputers. Three levels of computer design are dealt with: the device level, the logic level, and the system level in addition to basic topics such as number systems and Boolean algebra, combinational and sequential logic design, as well as more advanced subjects such as assembly language programming and microprocessor-based system design.
Learning Experiences:
The course is offered in 40 hours of lectures with individual exercises, project work and problem solving.
Course Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able:
- To strengthen the understanding of number systems, switching algebra, hardware description languages, simplification of Boolean functions
- To understand the concepts of combinational logic, flip flops & latches, sequential & asynchronous machines and others
- To analyze and design combinational and sequential circuits.
