Course Description:
This course is designed to present the critical principles and procedures of quality management. It is an in-depth study of the factors involved in the planning and management of an effective quality process in the organization. Coverage includes the key concepts of quality leaders, a quality process model, and primary considerations in planning and implementing a quality process, and familiarization with the tools used to plan manage quality throughout the organization.
Quality in design and planning is stressed as equally important to quality in the constructed project and quality in production of goods and services. This course familiarizes students with quality control techniques, quality assurance issues and quality management methods. It focuses on the essence, principles, and practices of total quality management (TQM). Some of the ideas and topics that are covered are: process focus; service quality; customer satisfaction; process control and capability; inspection; economics of quality; report cards; and organizational learning.
