AIM OF THE COURSE
This course surveys the pivotal events and achievements that led to the current state of graphic communication. The unceasing quest to give form to ideas is traced from the pictographs painted on cave walls to the latest imaginative designs. Through lectures, videotapes, discussions, presentations and research, students are introduced to the creative thinkers, important innovations and breakthrough technologies that have shaped the evolution of visual communication.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Be able to identify the major graphic designers and movements.
- Be able to understand the values and norms of the graphic design history.
- To explore the various stages and to try to create or present a series of the projects that will demonstrate their understanding of the course materials.
- Be able to differentiate between the fine art industry and the graphic design industry.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
- The course is primarily a lecture format, which incorporates a series of in class discussion sessions.
- Weekly reading assignments
- In-class participation: presentation of homework, oral responses,
- Interactive group work, discussions, presentations, note taking
- Students will use word processing and the Internet to prepare written report and conduct research.
- The final presentation will be make use of PowerPoint.
- Tow quizzes over selected sections of the text
